WELCOME

Summer has come to an end, and you are beginning your last year of middle school. This is a big year for you, and I am excited to share in the journey. My goal is to prepare you for high school, develop your critical thinking skills, and have fun along the way.

Eighth grade humanities are blocked as two periods that combine English and social studies. I also teach a fifth period language arts class. Both language arts 8 and humanities will investigate learning through the integrated themes of freedom, justice, community, and responsibility. We will study important events of United States history, from the birth of our nation to the Civil War. In addition, we will learn the geography of our country as we progress from the east coast to the west. We will follow the National Common Core in all areas. Students will be knowledgeable about expectations. Furthermore, students will be looking at their own learning process and be accountable for setting and maintaining personal goals. Students are responsible for taking care of our textbooks, and support materials. Students are expected to be in their seats when the bell rings, ready to work. Be prepared!

All students will have a gmail account for academic assignments. Please ask if you need help.
I am so excited to have you in my 8th grade class this year.

I still want you to record your homework in your planner while you are in class because that is where we go over details and you may need to write some notes about what to do. Yet, if you are absent for some reason, you have access to what you are missing. I am looking forward to growing with you this year.

Sincerely,

Michelle Bell Room 12
